IHASW & A Birthday

Well this last weekend was a hermitting one ~ I managed some progress:

A little progress on my LHN Simple Joys ~ this was a gift from the very lovely Barb last year. I made a start on this one on New Year's Day while we were staying with Sis2 and her family. Stitching over 1 on 28ct evenweave, it's quite slow progress but I'm really enjoying it ~ probably because there's been no sign of the wee green ones! I may change my mind if they decide to turn up.

Most of my stitching over the weekend was concentrated on Jolly Holiday by Lizzie Kate ~ this is my February contribution to the Christmas Ornaments All Year Round SAL ~ this month's theme was Christmas Tree. I searched through all my Ornament Magazines and found lots of trees ~ I just wasn't inspired to stitch any of them. Then I remembered winning this one in a giveaway from Maggee back in April last year, and I'm loving it so far. If I remember correctly next month we get to choose our own theme. I also managed a little on a piece that I'm doing for a spring themed exchange on Needlecraft Haven.
Last week saw another birthday for me ~ don't they come round with alarming speed? I was treated to some gorgeous gifts.

I haven't been able to wear my old watch since the last night at hospital with my Lovely Mum.
So the hugely thoughtful LM bought me this one ~ it's a complete change from the previous one, even has a bit of sparkle with the four crystals. I love it!

We had a very brief visit from Sis2 and her DH on Sunday and they brought me this glass wall hanging. Beautiful colours and of course perfect subject matter for me. If you don't already know I have a bit of a "thing" for hearts. It's staying in it's little corrugated card box until I decide where it will reside, probably in our room with the many other hearts that are already there ~ still I don't want to make any rash decisions.

We'll be seeing Sis2 and her family again over the weekend as we are off to view a couple of venues for the wedding and they're both up in Scotland ~ perfect to spend more time with them. We'll be seeing both of their daughters too ~ the youngest of which was engaged a couple of weeks ago so there might be fizzy stuff involved!

Next up is this gorgeaous heart themed gift from Carol (the lovely C) ~ the most gorgeous linen, buttons and a heart shaped glass dish. Thanks Carol, I still haven't decided what to use the fabric for. It needs to be something very special so it might be some time before you see it again.

This cute little package from Doreen came with an intriging message on the tag ~ some gorgeous co-ordinated spotty (another favourite) fabric. I opened the fabric out to find the following details on the selvedge. How lovely is that! Thanks Doreen ~ not sure I will be able to cut this one.

I had other gifts, a frame to hold a photograph from the WP's wedding, almost 69 years ago, lovely flowers, pink fizz and chocolates ~ thanks to everyone for being so kind.

I have been blog reading I just don't seem to have sufficient time to comment much at all ~ so apologies. I'm hoping this will change soon and I can get back to leaving comments each time I visit to read what you have all been up to.

We're enjoying some milder weather today and the sun is shining too ~ always a boost to see it. Have a great Tuesday.

Playing Catch Up

Do you ever have the feeling that no matter how hard you try you just can't keep up? I'm currently treading the hamster wheel of life!

Almost 2 weeks ago this wonderful package of goodies arrived, yes I am just telling you now!
This was a New Year's giveaway that I won on Sarah's blog ~ Craftymoo. It's full of great charts and fabric & a little bag that could be used for small projects. What I haven't pictured is the little tray of heart shaped chocolates that were also included ~ and that's not because I've eaten them either! Thank you so much Sarah ~ I already have a plan for a few of the lovely things you sent.
I have nothing I am willing to share with you from my workshop at Just Quilting on Saturday ~ I'm waiting until things are a little more finished! It was a small group and we all tried at least three of the available projects ~ another lovely day thanks to Carol & Doreen, even if we didn't get a carrot cake muffin!

Sunday was the meeting of The Diary Dames up at The Crafts House ~ as usual I had no fixed idea for what I wanted to create. I looked around, there is just so much to see there, spoilt for choice really.

While I was mooching I found this absolutely gorgeous minature tray ~ I wasn't sure what I would do with this, still not sure yet, but it was definitely coming home with me.

These bobbins where what I eventually decided to work on. Painted on one side and decorative paper on the other ~ they will be put into service for storing ribbon, lace and trim. I have a wooden box that originally held gift toiletries that may be perfect to house the bobbins so that could be my next painting project.

I have some lovely things to show you next time, just waiting for some decent light to take photographs ~ hopefully if won't be too long before I post again.

Friday Finish

Unfortunately it's not a stitching one - today was my last day at my temporary assignment where I have been working for the last 11 months. So back here, yes August, I had leaving cards & presents as the post holder returned from her maternity leave then. However, I was asked to do some additional work on a project that the MD wanted to have completed, then things escalated into several projects, and sorting out areas that weren't working etc. So it was a good run, it's had ups & downs but on the whole I've enjoyed my time there and made some lovely friends.

Last week it was The Lovely C's birthday and this is her present. It's fair to say that she's a bit of a button-o-holic so when I first saw this I thought it would make the perfect gift. It's a little storage box and I added some goodies ~ threads, ribbons & trim, a quilters quarter, stitch ripper etc together with the ribbon bow on the lid. I might need one myself! See that quilt in the background? I have a couple of stories to tell you about it ~ you'll have to wait though.
We have a busy weekend ahead of us ~ a friend's 60th birthday party, a family golden wedding party, I have a valentine themed workshop tomorrow at Just Quilting ~ all things heart ~ right up my street. Then it's the meeting of the Diary Dames for a painting session at The Crafts House on Sunday morning.
The GB's are finished school for a week for half term ~ has it registered with them that I'm going to be home with them next week, doubt it. Sorting out and bedroom tidying could be high on my to do list ~ probably hasn't even crossed their minds, can you hear the cries of delight? Yes, I know I'm wicked ~ it's a parental sport to keep them on their toes.
I'm hoping to have a finish to share with you next time ~ possibly more than one.

I have absolutely loved stitching this design ~ there is the small matter of a wee bit of personalisation, three stitches missed from the top section. All it needs now is date & signature and to be finished up into a hanging. I have a small metal hanger that I believe will be the perfect size, just have to find it!

Santa's Ready

No ~ I haven't lost the plot! This Santa is ready to be made into a Christmas Ornament. Santa was the theme in January on the Christmas Ornaments All Year Round blog and I chose to stitch this little fella.

I really enjoyed stitching this piece, it was so quick and no frogging, not even on the border.
February's theme is Christmas Tree - I don't have a design picked out yet but I'm sure I will find too many to choose from ~ as usual.
My plan is to keep my stitched pieces until I have a few and work on the finishing in batches ~ let's see how long that lasts.

We have Tuesday Stitching Group tonight, if I can get sorted in time I may start the stitching on my spring piece for the Needlecraft Haven four seasons exchange ~ I'm torn between a few designs for this one. Posting deadline is 10 March so I have a while to think of finishing ideas.

It's In The Bag

Remember the gorgeous fabrics I was playing with recently? Finally I can show you what I made.

This is a Lazy Girl pattern called Miranda Day Bag ~ made for my lovely Sis2, Jan's birthday was earlier in the month but I had told her this year her pressie would be late and she could collect it when they were down this weekend. They came to dinner with us Sunday evening and we had a lovely time chatting and catching up. I don't believe that I am exaggerating when I say that Jan loved her present.

It's a bag of many pockets which is what attracted me to the pattern in the first place. Construction was fiddly in places and I moved some of the steps around to make things a little easier for me. I'm delighted with how it turned out and plan to make one for myself too ~ different fabrics but same handles as I love them.

ORTs, Travelling Pattern & Secret Quilting

First ORT report of the year and I'm late ~ it's been that kind of week though!
So these are mine ~ current ones on the left obviously ~ I decided to keep going with another Christmas bauble, also pictured is last year's full bauble which I plan to somehow stitch 2011 on a fabric scrap to keep inside. I'll do the same for 2012's collection. It doesn't look like much stitching has been achieved when you look at the wee pile.
Last week I was the lucky recipient of the Travelling Pattern - Count Your Blessings by Shakespeare's Peddler.

This picture was taken earlier in the week ~ I'm stitching on linen band which I bought in France while on holiday last year. I've counted (twice) and it seem to be 35ct, I've been waiting to use it and it seemed perfect for this project. I had all but two of the recommended threads in my stash ~ I'm trying to stitch from stash only, so I just substituted a couple in their place. I'm hoping to be finished this piece over the weekend so if you would like to be the next stitcher check back.

I spent the day at Just Quilting on Saturday and these are the fabrics I was playing with ~ can't share what I've made yet, it's for Sis2 and although she doesn't read me I'd like her to see it first. Sis2 & her DH are visiting the North East for the weekend, staying with the Pater, so I will get to give her birthday present to her in person ~ last time that happened was 5 years ago!
I'm off now to complete my shopping online, although less work it's still a pain. I expect we'll be busy all weekend, I have a pile of ironing that is starting to resemble Ben Nevis so obviously I'm really looking forward to that...... and to top that there's more laundry too, lucky me!
I'll be back soon with a finish to share, hopefully two, ironing permitting.

January Review

The last couple of weeks have been full of ups and downs ~ lots going on, new things to start, teenage milestones, work, exam results, parcels in/parcels out, new cars (not me - the LM), late Christmas party, sewing days etc on top of all the usual daily routines.
GB1 had a birthday the week before last, on Friday 13th!, actually, he was born Friday 13th ~ that should have given me a clue that he could turn out to be hard work. He's now old enough to drive ~ how did that happen? He gets this mention today as he made me a very proud Mum last week. Completely out of the blue on Thursday he asked for a lift to a hall nearby so that he could attend a blood donor session. I took a book with me but spent much of the time observing GB1 and the way he conducted himself ~ like a real proper grown up person. The staff made a bit of a fuss over him, I think because they don't often get 17 year olds volunteering, hopefully that will encourage him to continue donating in the future.

GB2 deserves a mention too ~ back in November he had one of the modular exams for maths and received his results the first week of term ~ A* ~ brilliant achievement! I also had an opportunity to observe him at a recent school meeting ~ it's time for him to be thinking about the subjects he will take at A Level starting in September. Again, how did that happen, it seems that you just have to blink and the whole of their childhood is gone. He was quite well prepared, asking pertinent questions of the tutors to gather the information he needs to make his choices.

We all, from time to time, would like our children to behave differently. Having seen the GB's in "action", taking control of their own lives, making informed choices and conducting themselves like well mannered young men ~ how could I possibly have any reason to complain?

Last weekend was the first hermitting session of the year - I was limited with what I was able to achieve and will show you my progress soon.

Parcel Out ~ Parcels In

This week has been a busy one for post and parcels.
First, the parcel out ~ back in December I reached a milestone thanks to all you lovely people who kindly stop by and read my witterings ~ 100 followers. So I thought I would host a little giveaway ~ it wasn't open for anybody, just the centuplicate.

Sally's name was drawn and she has been patiently waiting for a) the madness of the Christmas postal service, and b) my "safe" place to be remembered as one of the component parts was hiding.

Sally has now received her parcel and, I'm pleased to report, is happy with the goodies I sent.

I ordered some goodies that were in The White Company's sale, a few things I saw pre-Christmas that my budget wouldn't stretch to ~ I can't show you them as I haven't unpacked them completely yet.
A gift for a friend arrived ~ obviously, can't show you that either.

On Tuesday this arrived ~ The Needlecraft Haven board had a birthday and I was lucky to be one of the giveaway winners. Clare sent me this gorgeous LHN All Dolled Up chart ~ thank you so much Clare.
I've looked at these many times so I'm delighted to have one to stitch ~ I'll be trying to sort through my stash to kit this up soon.

Thursday I collected this from the PO ~ yes it's the travelling pattern. I have been following this one around for a while ~ Christine was the last stitcher and now I am lucky enough to be included in The Stitcherhood.
This is Count Your Blessings from Shakespear's Peddler and I'm really looking forward to stitching this, starting today. I have my fabric and most of my threads sorted ~ I'm stitching from stash so substitution is the name of the game.
Hopefully you won't have long to wait before I can show you a finished piece.

This was what was waiting for me on Friday when I got home from work ~ how de-li-cious!

Jo from Dinky Dyes had a giveaway on her Facebook page ~ we were invited to post about our stitching resolutions for last year with a chance to win 25 skeins of DD silk thread ~ and I was one of the very lucky winners. You wouldn't think that it would be difficult to choose 25 silk threads, boy it took me ages. The only sad thing about this is that my hands are suffering with the current cold weather and are in no fit state to be fondling silk thread! So they were carefully extracted from the bag by their labels, photographed and returned to the bag by their labels ~ emollient ointment and white cotton gloves for me at bedtime!

I'm off to a finish your UFO's session at Just Quilting today ~ hoping to finish a birthday pressie for Sis2.

Rude Awakening

Morning all.
The wind is back in the NE again - not happy! I was rudely awoken at 05:30'ish by the delightful sound of the car alarm (the under two covers LM car alarm) going off - found keys and went to investigate only to discover that the underneath cover had somehow managed to come off the car and was swirling around in the road. The top cover, which is tied onto the car, was off the front and flapping away furiously. If the two covered car was a puzzle on the Krypton Factor I doubt whether anyone would solve how the bottom one manages to disengage itself from the car from underneath the top cover. Anyhow, this puzzling event usually happens when The LM is away from home and I have been known to grab the nearest fleece and whatever shoes are in the hall to chase the dratted things down the street (one night it was oversized sweater on top of PJ's with sling back shoes!). Actually GB1 was the last person to play chase the cover back in December, the neighbours are probably still scarred from seeing a 6' 3" beanpole of a teenager running down the street in his dressing gown chasing a car cover!
I wasn't feeling particularly benevolent this morning so I promptly advised the dazed, half awake LM that he needed to go fetch the covers - perhaps not the kindest thing I've done so far this year!
Hopefully Thirsday will improve as it goes along.

A Challenge Finish & Another Start

I have joined the Ladies at 2012 WIP Challenge on Facebook ~ it does what it says on the tin ~ a challenge to clear as many of your WIP's during the next 12 months. I'm hoping to work my way through the odd one or two! I've (partially) made a list of my WIP's which I am sure will in itself be a work in progress ~ finish a few, add a few more!

This is Ho Ho Ho in a Row by L*K, stitched on 32ct (powder) blue evenweave with the recommended threads. It's a bit of a cheat really as I only started this on 29 December, it was technically still a WIP. I've loved stitching this and I plan to make a pillow finish with it, I already have a charm pack of fabric that will be used. Apologies for the size of the picture - Blogger wouldn't play nicely and allow me to size AND place it where I wanted it to go!

I've also joined the Christmas Ornaments All Year Round blog to try and keep up with stitching a minimum of 12 ornaments this year. The blog has a planned theme each month and January's theme is Santa Claus ~ this is mine ~ Wee Santa 2005 from Heart in Hand. I'm stitching on 32ct linen with the recommended GAST & WDW threads. Apart from the linen being overly stiff this is another lovely stitch, and hopefully it won't be too long before it's finished.

I'm looking forward to Tuesday Stitching Group tonight, not sure whether I'll work on my Santa or Simply Joys by LHN.

It Could Be Time

To tidy away a few threads!
The basket is full of threads that have been used in projects over the past few months ~ well it may be more than a few! It's been so long since I updated my database that I can't rely upon it to tell me where anything is.
Apart from my general chores and hopefully seeing Bro4 while he is visiting Dad this weekend I think my time should be well spent getting the stash into some semblance of order.

Last & First

I finally finished The Sampler Lady by LHN on 29 December 2011 ~ my last finish for the year.
She's stitched 1/1 on 28ct cream evenweave with the recommended threads ~ most of which I won in a giveaway on the Needlecraft Haven group quite some time ago.
Mostly I loved stitching Grace, as I named her, however I made a mistake with the stitching on her face and she was ensconced in a cupboard so I didn't have to think about frogging ~ huge mistake! I took the plunge last week to sort it out and here she is all complete. I haven't added my name ~ I just stitched the K in a different colour.
I don't usually make New Year resolutions, however I have decided that I should make this one........
Never put away a project that contains an error ~ frog it now!

And this is my New Year's Day start, Simple Joys by LHN.
Stitched 1/1 on the same fabric as The Sampler Lady with the recommended threads. This was a gift from the very lovely Barb for my birthday last year. I'm stitching it in memory of my lovely Mum who took pleasure in the simple joys in life.

I've Been Meaning To Post

Actually I've been meaning to do many things.
This week between Christmas & New Year should have been an hive of activity. I had lots planned ~ stitching, quilting, sorting out my stash together with clearing the ubiquitous piles of assorted "stuff" that I manage to acquire. In reality I have done very little ~ much of my inactivity has been related to feeling well under par, thankfully this is now starting to pass.

We made a family visit on Tuesday ~ my only trip out. It was lovely to see the assorted clan, many of whom we don't see often enough.
I painted this a while ago for the most recent member of the family ~ we meet Isla Rose for the first time on Tuesday, what an absolute sweetheart she is. She cooed and gurgled away contentedly while we all had cuddles.

Talking of angels, this one was stitched quite a few years ago. It was a kit that I received as a birthday gift from a friend. All that was left to do was to finish had stitching the binding and adding a hanger ~ I borrowed a cropodile which punched the holes and set the snowflake eyelets, a bit of wire was added secured with a couple of polka dots buttons. I'm very happy that I have finally finished this.

My final TUSAL of 2011 and the complete year of ORTs in my Christmas bauble ~ that's a lot of old ragged threads! Not the best pictures.

I have spent the last couple of days stitching yet another Christmas piece!

This is Ho Ho Ho in a Row by Lizzie Kate ~ I have the buttons to add to the wreath and the colour blocks to add to the bottom border and it's done. I'm debating whether to change the colour blocks from the charted pink, red & green to filling them all with the blue ~ can't decide, which is why it's not finished.

I have a few other ornament finishes that have not been revealed yet ~ perhaps I will show them during the dark days of January.

I would like to thank all of you for reading me here, and for all the lovely comments that have been left over the past 11 months. 2011 has been a year of both great joy and great sadness for me, in some ways I am sorry to see it close, but close it must. Here's to a bright, happy & healthy 2012.

A Little Bit of Christmas

Originally I bought this thinking it would work as an ornament tree, however when I hung some ornaments I didn't like it - neither the tree nor the ornaments showed up very well, I have to admit to being disappointed. So I tried the little jingle bells that were bought to spruce up our door wreath and didn't make it there. I love how it looks, and the light it sheds is a lovely warm white.
The little angel sitting under the tree is the project that Sandra from The Crafts House designed for our Tuesday Stitching Group's last visit back in November. She looks just perfect sitting there with the warm glow of the tree above her.

And here she is a little more clearly ~ we painted, glued, shaded, stamped, blushed, beaded and twisted ~ isn't she sweet!

The LM is off on his travels again tomorrow and on Saturday GB1 is off to a medical taster course at Nottingham University ~ a whole 5 days away from home, by himself! As I'm sure many of you have experienced with your own children he's not phased in the slightest at the prospect ~ me? I'm a wee bit apprehensive.

Sleep is calling my name ~ eventually, with barely 5 hours in the land of nod between the last couple of nights ~ I'm off, night.

Oh Wow!

100 followers - how fantastic. Thanks to each and every one of you for taking the time to read my ramblings, it's lovely to think that you keep coming back for more! I love to receive your comments and I read them all. I know from my short time blogging (less than a year) how it can be difficult to keep up with reading let alone commenting on posts, so I truly appreciate the time you take in doing so.
To mark this milestone & as a thank you I will be putting together a little something - not sure what yet, promise it won't be leftover turkey though! A name will be drawn from existing followers only - after all you are my centuplicate**. The name will be announced later in the week, however I would not plan to mail out the goodies until the silly season at the Post Office is over to minimise the risk of a) delay between my house and yours & b) disappearance.

Exchange Updates

I have now heard that my last two ornaments have reached their destinations.

This was sent to Joyce in Texas who was my partner on the Friendly Stitchers group. It's Noel by Log Cabin Needleworks, stitched on 18ct Rustico with DMC threads. I really love this design and will be stitching it again for myself ~ hopefully soon.

Sandra in Wales was my partner for TGOSM group's ornament exchange and I stitched Winter by The Stitcherhood. Another design that I really like ~ this one is on 32ct Sand Linen with DMC threads. I have already stitched this one for myself on a smaller scale.

I'm still stitching ornaments for the Christmas Ornament Challenge 2011 but they will probably all be staying in our home. I'm hoping to finish my Secret Santa piece for Tuesday Stitching group ~ we'll be exchanging these at our Christmas dinner mid-month.

Today has been spent shopping with the LM ~ at a fairly sedate pace I have to say, although the trip on public transport nearly ruined the day! LM doesn't really "do" public transport. In addition to Christmas things we have been investigating new phones ~ so many handsets/deals/bundles, and would you expect to hear words like gingerbread & ice cream sandwich in a phone shop?

There are those of you out there who know that in our house the LM does most of the cooking, including some very lovely cakes ~ well not today! Tonight we've had homemade roasted butternut squash & sweet potato soup and I'm feeling quite pleased with myself as it was very tasty, there's even leftovers for another day. We have a surplus of apples so tomorrow I may make Eve's pudding ~ a favourite of mine as my lovely Mum made it many times for us.

Ornament Stitcing

Aside from stitching for the Christmas Ornament Challenge 2011 I have participated in three ornament exchanges this year.

Last week (I think) this arrived all the way from Texas ~ Joyce from The Friendly Stitcher Group was my partner and stitched this lovely JBW design. I can't show you what I sent just yet as I have not heard from Joyce as to whether it has been received.

Today was reveal day for the Needlecraft Haven ornament exchange ~ Ursh sent me this gorgeous snowman, such a lot of work and I love the ruched ribbon trim. I just love snowmen so it's perfect.

I was to stitch for Julie and this is the ornament I sent ~ it's from the November issue of The Gift of Stitching, the fabric shown is what was used as the backing.

Finally, from my partner Sandra on TGOSM exchange I received this lovely piece ~ the design is from The Drawn Thread Company. Again, I am waiting to hear from Sandra that she has received my package before I show it here.

Thanks so much to all my partners for the lovely ornaments I have received ~ they will be displayed in our home for many years to come. I recently bought a little tree from a local garden centre which I hope will work for hanging all the ornaments I have received from exchanges over the years ~ I guess as it's now December I should unpack it and see how it works.

Twisty Tuesday

That's how I feel my day will turn out. I was far too late going to sleep last night (the stitching bug was to blame) and roused very early when the LM left for London at 04:40, leaving without saying hello/bye is not really allowed here ~ can't imagine who decided that should be the rule! I should have been going with him but as I've missed so much work I can't really take more time off to jaunt around the country. So as well as getting frustrated with lack of hearing today I may be slightly tetchy ~ if I were you I'd give me a wide berth. I'm off to see if porridge can save the day.

No Snow This Year...

... for our trip to the Knitting & Stitching show at Harrogate ~ thank goodness.

My shopping list was relatively short this year ~ mostly threads to complete patterns I already have. The charm pack will be used to finish the L*K pattern shown plus another one I have (once they are stitched!) into pillows.
The felt is for a project from this Rosalie Quinlan book I recently bought at Just Quilting together with something else I am working on.
Our day was not as leisurely as usual as the exhibition seemed to be far busier than we have experienced in recent years ~ perhaps people were getting in on day one in case the weather turned nasty and prevented them from going. I have started saving for next year already.

A Spot of Painting & TUSAL

Our Tuesday Stitching Group have our next meeting at The Crafts House this week for our Christmas project ~ I'm really looking forward to it, I have an idea of what we will be making but you will have to wait and see.

This is our last project from back in September - a cute row of gingerbread men in a frame. We always have a great time with Sandra and I'm sure that Tuesday will be as enjoyable as ever.

I have also been spending some Sunday mornings painting with the Diary Dames ~ this snowman with his mug of hot chocolate was one of my recent finishes. I have a couple of others to share with you soon ~ they just need some final titivating before they make an appearance.

Hermit Weekend Update

After a few housebound days I made a visit to see my Dad on Saturday morning ~ I figured that as I was feeling much better (and seriously fed up with being stuck indoors) this would be OK. We spent time drinking coffee and just chatting about all manner of things ~ he's doing great, well apart from a little tumble that has left him bruised and sore. Dad's is off to Scotland later in the week for a stay with Sis2 and her family ~ I think that they are all looking forward to it.
I had a couple of shopping stops to make on the way home and stitching started shortly after lunch.

My first two projects were quick finishes:

This is an internet freebie from Alexandrina. I have stitched this on 32ct evenweave, not sure of the colour as it is a piece I was recently given, with DMC 890. Finished with a homemade cord in the same colour.

My second ornament is also a freebie from Alexandrina, stitched with the same fabric and thread.

I really enjoyed completing these two ornaments to add to my collection.

Yesterday I managed to complete the finishing on two ornaments for exchanges ~ obviously I can't show you these until after they have been received by my partners. They were both great to stitch.

Next up was the SAL from The Thread Basket and C Mon Monde

I'm using a mix of GAST and Crescent Colours for this one. The linen is from Permin, can't remember the colour name at the moment. I don't use Permin fabric much and this is quite stiff ~ however I do like the way it's coming together. Hopefully Part II should arrive today.

I spent a couple of hours with The Diary Dames and Sandra at The Crafts House yesterday ~ I was really pleased with what I managed to achieve. The usual dose of hilarity was included along with coffee, mince pies and some lovely projects ~ I'll share mine with you soon.

Today I had expected to return to work ~ my right ear had other plans! A quick visit to the Doctor confirmed an infection ~ so antibiotics and pain killers are on the menu for me. Hoping to make it back tomorrow once the meds have kicked in.

A less than happy Monday ~ on the upside it's our annual visit to Harrogate on Thursday.

My version is stitched on 18ct Floba with a mix of DMC, Six Stands Sweet and Crescent Colours. I added some lace trim in place of the satin stitch border and a couple of tiny buttons. I have a plan for finishing this however the aid of the LM is required so I need to wait until he has time to assist me.

22 April 1924 to 24 September 2011

I haven't had the heart to be blogging recently - my last post was full of excitement for visiting my WP's at my Lovely Mum's new "home". Sadly this visit started earlier than expected and was for the purpose of waiting for an ambulance to return Mum to the hospital which she was discharged from just the day before.

Mum is terribly missed by our Wonderful Dad, us 11 children together with our spouses/partners, 21 grandchildren some with spouses/partners, 9 great grandchildren and all those who have had the privilege of knowing her.

We are so grateful for all the lovely cards, messages, kind thoughts and prayers sent to our family.

A memorable message from one of the cards Dad received:
"Kindness is a word that the deaf can hear and the blind can see - and Veda had this in abundance for anyone she met"

We are all very fortunate to have had this incredibly special lady in our lives.

A messsage from Dad to Mum, written from his heart almost 70 years ago.
Whereso'er I am, below or else above you,
Whereso'er you are my heart shall always love you.

Stitcherhood Winner

It's me!
I've just heard that my name came out as the next stitcher and I'm quite excited about it. Jane was the last stitcher and you can see her finished piece here - I love the fabric and button - well it is a heart! - that Jane has used to finish her little pillow.
I'm a huge fan of L*K designs and it's ages since I stitched one so I am really looking forward to getting started with this one.

I've heard that my lovely Mum was released from hospital yesterday so I'll be off to visit her & Dad later this afternoon. I'm looking forward to seeing them in her new surroundings.
Don't know about you but I'm looking forward to the weekend.

SAL Update

A quick update on my iStitch SAL - this is part III completed. I am really enjoying this SAL even if I am a little behind. Part IV arrived into my inbox today and I plan to work on this tonight at quilt group - yes I know it's not a quilt, however I don't have the time to go looking for and organising something more quilty for today.
I also have progress to share with you on my Best Friends SAL - this will have to wait as I have yet to photograph it. My stitching has been limited to these two projects recently, hopefully that will change shortly.
I'm still (im)patiently waiting for my engagement ring to be returned from being re-made - 2 weeks down possibly 4 more to go. Still I know that it is worth waiting for!
GB1 seems to have settled into A Level studies quite well, he was so fed up and restless by the end of the holidays that he was beginning to wear everyones' nerves! We are so very proud of his acheivement with his GCSE exams - 6 A*, 5A & 2 B - who wouldn't be proud? We're certain that he will carry this on through his A Level studies too.
GB2 is now into his final year of GCSE studies, he's not a naturally studious person and often needs a nudge to keep on top of things, however we know that he will do his best - mostly because we will make him!
LM & I are mostly back into the swing of work, albeit that mine is still on a temporary basis - oh for a Euromillions win & retirement!
Mum is still recovering well from her hip operation and should be released from hospital towards the end of this week and moving into a new residential home. We're all looking forward to not having the restriction of hospital visiting hours, especially Dad. Hopefully Mum will settle into the new surroundings quickly and enjoy spending the days with Dad and any other visitors who drop in - there are certainly plenty of them. I'll be one of them on Friday
I shall leave with a this - somebody told me today that there are 95 days till Christmas!

iStitch SAL etc

Just a quick update on one of my holiday stitching projects.
This is Part II of the SAL that Carol is currently running. I was a little late submitting my picture so have just received the chart for Part III today, and I am planning to stitch it this evening at Tuesday Stitching Group.
You must forgive me if I am a little quiet on the blogging front - my Mum had another fall while we were on holiday. One hip replacement later & fingers crossed that the recouperation continues well. There's planning afoot this week for physiotherapy to get her mobile again ~ hopefully the upright kind of mobile.
There should have been a family gathering this coming weekend to mark my Dad's 90th birthday ~ I'm not sure what will happen at the moment as I'm quite certain that Dad would prefer to have Mum by his side to mark this fantastic milestone.
Last weekend was a LM (I may have to re-name him FM - Fiance Man!) family gathering to celebrate his Parents' Golden Wedding Anniversary. A fabulous time was had by all ~ some more than others I have to say. We were able to catch up with people we don't see often enough, particularly the two who travelled from Australia. Lots of people were desperate to see my engagement ring, unfortunately it is still with the designer being re-made to fit! So they had to content themselves with the picture on my phone ~ as I have to, one week down, possibly still 5 to go before I get to wear it.
I haven't had a proper look at the photographs from the weekend yet but I should be able to show you the cakes that LM had made for his Mum & Dad at some point ~ they were brilliant and very well received.

I Have A Little News To Share

Yesterday, while I was here my LM proposed! We had a lovely day wandering around different places on the Ile de Re and just before we set off back to our temporary home in St-Jean-de-Monts he took me to sit where we could look over the harbour wall and hear the water lapping and asked me to become his wife.
The sun was shining and the vista was just perfect ~ he's been keeping this secret for some time and decided that this was where we should be. We visited the Ile de Re about 3 years ago, again while staying at St-Jean-de-Monts, and fell in love with the whole island.

And didn't he do well choosing a ring too ~ I love it! We need to go back to the jewellers to have it re-sized when we get home ~ which will be all too soon. This was secretly packed along with a bottle of champagne ~ we won't be bringing that home!
LM took a video of the moment when he asked my Dad for his blessing so as you can imagine there were a few tears when he played this for me yesterday. The GB's are with us on holiday and are both delighted by the news ~ GB1 has decided that he will be planning the wedding!
I'm off to enjoy my last few days of French life before we all have to return to the world of school and work.

Tartan Lovely Ness

I first saw these when LM and I were in Scotland with the TVR Club back in April ~ loved them immediately.

Recently I had an email to say the Ness were having an online sale so I thought I would just have a wee look. I'm not really keen on buying shoes online when I have no experience of the makers sizes. I took a gamble though and it has paid off ~ last night I walked around the house for an hour or so wearing them, looking down at the tartan gorgeousNess of them and they fit perfectly.

I have a dinner date with a few friends tonight and I'm trying to work out what to wear that will allow me to give my new footwear their debut ~ little things! Speaking of dinner ~ it's a final get together for four of us who worked together before Jen disappears off to Italy for her wedding next week. I'm looking forward to it.

Kind Words, Flowers & Memories

My latest temporary assignment drew to a close on Friday last week. Fortunately I have been asked stay on for a while longer to carry out some system reviews and report my findings & recommendations.

To mark the end of my "watch" the MD organised a little thank you ~ these pretty roses were part of it. I was very touched by the kind words and gifts ~ I've really enjoyed working with the staff there.

Now I have to admit to having a wee irrational phobia where roses are concerned. When we were young we walked with Dad to visit Grandma & Grandpa each Sunday morning while Mum was busy making lunch and baking. Often when Dad's roses were in bloom he would cut a bunch to take for Grandma ~ I remember one time when I was carrying said bunch of roses that an earwig came creeping out and I have associated roses with this ever since ~ silly or what? Our Sunday morning visits were memorable for other reasons too as we were always treated to fizzy orange, cheese puffs and chocolate teacakes while the grown ups were having their cup of tea.

As gorgeous as these roses are I couldn't keep them at home ~ my Mum has always loved roses so she now has them in her room ~ they brought a smile when I visited on Saturday, I can only wonder at what her thoughts were ~ I bet she wasn't thinking about earwigs though!

My weekend has been full of allsorts ~ shopping, ironing, opticians appointments, organising and wondering what the week ahead will bring. GB2 has a birthday to celebrate, GB1 has exam results to collect, we have dentist appointments to attend, new glasses to collect and general busy-ness to sort things out for the return to school in September.

It's Tuesday Stitching Group for me tonight - I should get very close to a finish! Tomorrow evening the Lovely C is hosting a few of us from the Wednesday Quilting Group - there is usually a wee bit of hilarity so I am looking forward to it. Quilting Group will start to meet again in early September - I think I may even get onto a quilting project when we reconvene! I have signed up to a BOM quilt being run by Carol at Just Quilting - it's a Christmas wall hanging and I shall work on this at quilt group ~ I haven't allowed myself to start this yet as I really must get a few other things out of the way first ~ famous last words!

Exchange Piece & SAL Progress

I mentioned a while ago the Summer Holiday Exchange on the Needlecraft Haven Group ~ we were to kit up a freebie pattern on a summer theme and send it to another participant. Once we had received our kits we have the 6 weeks summer holidays to stitch and finish them ~ there will be a reveal day on the group in September and we will then learn who sent our kits to us.

This is my progress so far ~ I did tell you it was bright didn't I?

I'm not too sure why I didn't take a photograph of the package when it arrived, but I didn't!

It's stitched on 25ct Floba with DMC thread ~ I have a plan for finishing but I can't tell you about that until later ~ I hope it works! I managed to stitch a little more on this today while visiting Mum as she slept most of the time I was there.

This is the Best Friends SAL from Atelier Perdu ~ sadly I am way behind with this piece. This is my progress on Part I, Part II has already arrived and Part III is due to be released very soon!

I am really enjoying this however I am finding that natural light is the best when stitching over one on 32ct fabric ~ unfortunately working 5 days a week really gets in the way. I have a wee bit of unpicking to do ~ not something I am looking forward to ~ but I'll get there ~ eventually!

Ooops!

I seem to have started something new!

This is the mystery SAL from Carol at Istitchaholic

stitched on 40ct Antique White Newcastle linen with a Limited Edition hand dyed silk from Dinky Dyes called Nanna. This was a lovely quick stitch ~ Carol provided the whole border pattern with part I, my plan is to stitch the border as I complete the subsequent parts ~ there are eight in total released every two weeks.

The thread came in a Christmas mystery pack a few years ago ~ the theme was Pantomime and the pack contained fabulous hand dyed fabric with names like Streets of Gold & Prince Charming. It also contained a whole host of threads ~ the Dinky Dyes ones were themed on Peter Pan, 4 in total ~ Peter Pan, Wendy, Tinkerbell & Nanna.

It's dull and overcast here this morning and I'm pleased to report that it's not raining ~ I have housey jobs to complete then I'm off to visit Mum again for the afternoon, some of the jobs may still be waiting when I return!

Summer Biscornu Exchange

I've had confirmation that my partner has now received the biscornu that I sent in The Friendly Stitchers Summer Biscornu Exchange.

So here is the one I stitched for Mouse ~ an internet freebie that I paid particular attention to writing down the name of the site, unfortunately it's in that "safe place" so I am unable to tell you where it came from!

Stitched on Count on Me Fabric from Jayne's Attic (no longer trading) in Rose with DMC 3608 and Caron Waterlillies Caramel. I didn't use the whole pattern as I liked the result at this stage ~ the colours remind me of neopolitan ice cream! And here is the back ~ I finished the biscornu with MOP buttons. I was so pleased to hear that Mouse was delighted with her exchange piece.

OK! Nobody Panic

Monday is nearly over and if We all stay quiet and behave it may pass by without incident ~ at least I hope so. I still haven't worked out how Mondays can be so stealthy ~ I finish work on Friday evening and then bam! it's Monday again.
My weekend was fairly non-stop ~ Saturday having already been covered in my previous post I shall move swiftly on to Sunday

I spent the morning painting at The Crafts House and this is the completed ornament that I made. As usual we had a few chuckles which is always good and Sandra had made a cake to celebrate Sarah's birthday ~ cake is definitely good too.

The wire hanger needs to be made a little more secure but on the whole I am very happy with my efforts ~ this will be my ornament finish for August. Unfortunately I am still a wee bit behind as June's ornament WIP has disappeared into an incredibly "safe place" and July's hasn't been started, or chosen if I'm admitting to mis-demeanors.

I passed the afternoon visiting my Mum ~ I had collected a couple of magazines on my way so was able to read to her a little, I think she quite enjoyed just looking at the pictures too. I managed a little stitching on my Summer Holiday Exchange piece while Mum dozed ~ I hope to have a picture to show you soon, it's bright so remember to bring your sunglasses!

While blog reading recently I stumbled upon a SAL that Carol of Istitchaholic is running ~ Part I is to be released this coming weekend and I'm looking forward to it. I'm off to check whether I have sufficient 40ct fabric and to check out what thread I might use for it.

Another Sunday

and that means that Monday will arrive soon!

We had torrential rain yesterday ~ I was out and about for much of the day ~ weigh in followed by a visit to see my Mum with my Sis2 who was down from Scotland for the weekend. Managed a short visit to Just Quilting on my way home to collect some batting that I needed. Always a pleasure to be welcomed there, the assembled ladies were doing a class making quilts from jelly rolls with Lucie and they were all looking fabulous.

The rain seemed at it's worst on my journey home and I made a detour from my usual route as part of it was flooded and I wasn't sure that little Jazzy would have managed to wade her way through the volume of water ~ she probably would have been fine but better safe than sorry.

I'm off for a bit of painting therapy with Sandra at The Crafts House and the Diary Dames this morning ~ this is Sandra's pet name for our wee group ~ Carol, Doreen , Lucie and her fantastically talented daughter Sarah and me ~ the hanger on! Afterwards I'm visiting with my Mum again for the afternoon ~ it will be good to get some alone time with her ~ it's likely that Mum will snooze the time away but I'll have my stitching to keep me company if she does.

I'm late, I'm late .........

and other white rabbit happenings. How can it be August already?

I'm back in the unenviable position of being behind on everything again hence the title ~ I don't think I'm actually late per se, more agitated that I'm not finishing things.

First up is my unofficial TUSAL reporting which was due 30 July ~ yeah I guess I am late for this! I took the photographs to take my mind off other things on Saturday but didn't get round to posting them till now.

There seems to be quite a lot considering the small volume of stitching that I have achieved for July. I have so many things at present which I'm sure would take just moments (relatively speaking) to complete, I'm just missing the inclination. And I'm sure you know that trying to finish something when you're really not in the mood to be doing it can spell utter disaster ~ so things have been left.

Secondly, I joined a summer biscornu exchange on the Friendly Stitchers Yahoo Group and this is the lovely one stitched for me by my partner ~ isn't it gorgeous? There was a lovely note enclosed with it and it arrived super quick after partner's details were issued - Mouse clearly has smokin' needles. Thanks so much Mouse, yours is almost ready to mail out, I should manage that this week.

Next is my top secret project which is coming along ~ slowly! Part II arrived in the mail last week ~ there isn't as much stitching as in Part I but still I am behind. No photographs just yet.

Then we come to the summer holiday exchange on Needlecraft Haven ~ I have started this but it hasn't had much time devoted to it and there are no pictures ~ these need to show me working on the project.

Now, blog reading, groups & emails ~ waaaaay behind. Housework, laundry etc ~ waaaaay behind. Bit of a theme really and not one I care for too much!

A new month has arrived and I'm hoping that I shall manage some catch up. It will be a busy month ~ LM has a few business trips coming up, the GB's are off for a few days to a wedding. I have applications to follow up and interviews to attend, the GB's have exam results to collect and digest and we have family matters to discuss and plans to be instigated.

I won't tell you about the rat incident.....

A Sheepish Surprise

There is an incredibly kind and generous Lady that I met through an online stitching group ~ she is always sending little parcels of kindness to many, many people and I have been very lucky to be one of the recipients of her generosity. I wanted to do something in return, so now that I know that Barb has received my package I can show you what I sent.

Now you might get the impression that Barb is a fan of sheep ~ well I think you could be onto something there! Sheep are not a big thing where I live so these things have been brought together from many places as I've travelled around ~ the coaster from Ullapool when LM and I were on our touring trip of Scotland with the TVR Club, the card from a day out in Richmond, the phone charm from my last stitching day in Penrith and Dolly. Now Dolly came from the imagination of Sandra at The Crafts House, and we are all very lucky that Sandra is prepared to share all her ideas with us. I spent a very enjoyable couple of hours one Sunday making Dolly under the tutelage of Sandra ~ thanks Sandra.

On the back of Dolly is a wee message for Baa'rb! I'm delighted that you like the things I sent.

Well Monday has arrived again ~ how does it do that? Arrive so quickly.

Last Weekend

It seemed like I was on the go much of the time. Saturday was a really miserable day with rain that never ceased and Sunday was not much better.

It was Christmas in July over at Just Quilting on Saturday ~ the wreath was on the door (no picture as the rain was coming down like stair rods!) and the tree was up complete with lights. All the Ladies were hard at work when the Lovely C and I called in ~ the projects they were working on were gorgeous as ever.

I managed to get the seven fabrics that are required for my secret project ~ I'll show them later when I have part I finished, eventually ~ part II is already on it's way from France. Carol bought the cutest little pillow and some fabric. Next we went to our monthly EG meeting ~ I wasn't sure about the subject of the talk as textile art is not something that I go for. I was very pleasantly surprised though as our speaker Nicky Dillerstone gave a fabulous talk and brought everyone into her world - it was really interesting.

Sunday morning was spent at The Crafts House finishing the project I started last time I was there. These wise old birds will be a gift for my Dad ~ the wise owl of our family who will be 90 in September. After painting Doreen and I had a trip to Country Baskets for a look around and a good soaking on the way back to the car!

LM wanted us to visit the garage to try out some seats ~ he spends a huge amount of time in his car so it's vital that it's comfortable and he just doesn't fit in standard seats! Not very exciting really but it has to be done ~ we also had a test drive on Monday of one of the cars he is thinking about buying.

Monday came around far too soon for my liking.

Yesterday we should have had a visit from my WP's however since her fall Mum is not doing so well and was taken back into hospital on Friday and is being kept in for a few more days ~ I'm off to visit this afternoon.

GB2 finished school for the summer on Thursday so we now have two teenagers lounging about the place ~ time for a wee list of jobs me thinks!

Exchanges and SAL Updates

Michelle hosted a BBD exchange a wee while ago ~ my piece travelled all the way from Perth, Australia and can be seen at the bottom of the post here. I have heard that my partner Melanie has received the piece I stitched for her now so I can show a photograph.

This is a design from Honeysuckle Manor and was finished as a pin box in the book. I finished this as a mattress pincushion and was very pleased with the result ~ my first finish of this type ~ I'm delighted that Melanie loves it. The fabric is linen but was unmarked in my stash so that's all I can tell you about it. The thread was a silk from a Silk Mill starter pack that I bought at the Harrowgate show some years ago ~ a little unruly to work with but does finish nicely. A couple of vintage buttons were added to complete the pincushion. Thanks again to Michelle for organising the exchange.

There are two more exchanges I am taking part in ~ a summer biscornu exchange over on The Friendly Stitchers Yahoo Group ~ I've heard from my partner that mine is already on it's way to me! I better get a move on to stitch mine, although the deadline is not until 12 August. Also, I received a lovely exchange parcel from my partner on the Needlecraft Haven Yuku Group - this is a secret exchange where we had to kit up and send out a freebie pattern with a summer theme ready for our partners to start stitching 22 July. The SAL runs the course of the school holidays and we will be posting photographs on the group of our progress and also of us stitching ~ in the garden, while on holiday etc. A little bit of summer fun ~ partners will be revealed in September when we should all have our projects finished.

I'm progressing with my top secret project too, I joined the SAL late so I am lagging behind however Nataliejo has assured me that I will be able to catch up as there is not so much stitching in part II which is already on it's way!

Weekend Flashback

We had a very early start last Saturday ~ LM needed to catch his 8:46 train from Penrith to go and collect the LM car back from it's little holiday. It was the monthly stitching day at Just Sew for me and I was really looking forward to it as had to miss the June day. The traffic crossing the A69 was much heavier than I would have expected but it was still a good run with a quick stop at Southwaite Services for a coffee & granola bar to keep us going.
I was there so early I had a walk around Penrith before going to Just Sew ~ there are a couple of shops that I like to visit but I don't always get the opportunity, I was however too early for some of them so I wandered, took photographs and made notes of places to pop back to later in the day.
I was first to arrive but wasn't alone for very long ~ there were nine of us stitching on various projects from bags to table runners some canvas work and a bit of knitting. I was very pleased with what I managed ~ finishing one project and moving another well on. A few of us have signed up to a class next month to make a bag which I am looking forward to.
Sunday was a lovely warm day ~ the sun was slow to show it's face but when it did it was wonderful. The LM was off out to his monthly car club meeting followed by a run out to Melmerby for tea and cake. GB1 was working and GB2 was avoiding the required tidying of his bedroom. I managed to amuse myself pottering around ~ mostly backwards and forwards from my seat in the garden to empty and re-load the washing machine and "peg out".

This was the view from my seat in the garden - a picture of perfection for a warm Sunday. iPod on the docking station for sunny tunes, sewing basket with a selection of projects, sewing glasses ~ an absolute essential, pincushion, a drink ~ well several really, container for threads, buttons, scissors etc. Oh, and an empty bowl that had contained my current favourite treat ~ broken up meringue nest and yoghurt.
I hope I get to repeat this sedentary experience over and over across the summer months.
As I make this report I am more than ready for the coming weekend ~ I have EG on Saturday and myself and the Lovely C plan to call into Just Quilting before ~ I need fabric for my top secret project, also they are having their Christmas in July workshop and I am reliably informed that they will have a tree up! Sunday I will be at The Crafts House working on my owl project in the morning and hope to get a trip to Country Baskets too.

Top Secret!

I'm quite excited about this top secret project ~ I have joined a SAL through Nataliejo at L'Atelier Perdu. I joined late so I have only until 21 July before part two is issued!
I love the thread colours and the 32ct fabric that have been recommended for this. We have been set a mission for next time too - we need to find 7 co-ordinating printed fabrics for making up - guess that means a trip to Just Quilting at the weekend ~ what a chore that will be!!
I must resist starting until I have my Tuesday Stitching Group birthday gifts finished. I am hoping that the current batch of 3 gifts will all be ready to be re-homed on Tuesday next week. One is finished, one is waiting to be made up and there is the teeniest amount of stitching to complete on # 3 before it can be made up.

I've had a couple of gorgeous things arrive at Flossbox Central ~ they can speak for themselves:

This fab pincushion and lovely cupcake card arrived a wee while ago from Rachael at Stitchabilities as I won her draw that marked her 4th year blogaversary ~ Thank you so much Rachael.
I tried and tried to get a decent picture that would show the beads that are stitched on but no matter what I tried I couldn't manage to get it right.
I signed up to a Blackbird Designs Exchange that Michelle was organising through her blog ~ there were seven of us participating. I had an unsuccessful attempt to mail to my partner yesterday ~ I didn't realise that Post Offices still did half day closing on Wednesdays, shows what I know. I have been more successful today and it's now winging it's way to my partner. I will show a picture once I know it is safely received.

This was waiting for me when I returned home from work yesterday ~ it's been on an epic journey ~ it came all the way from Perth, Australia! This is from Lisa who was my partner in the Blackbird Design Exchange. This is Summer Iris and Lisa has stitched it on 32ct antique cream linen. How fab is that ribbon on the top?

Tomorrow is the last day of my working week and it has taken an absolute age to arrive ~ I'm planning to start early so I can finish early as I have an appointment to attend. Hopefully I can squeeze in a visit to see the WP's too.
We have been invited to a friend's barbecue in the evening to celebrate his wife's qualification as a doctor ~ attendance depends on the LM being home early enough and still in possession of some energy. He has been away this week training people so he'll no doubt be all talked out and fatigued from driving 280 miles in Friday traffic ~ yuk!

Mid Week Report

Isn't time passing by quickly at the moment? Wednesday already!
The Tuesday Stitching group Ladies were at my house last night ~ eight of us in total. Our two hours were over in what seemed like about 10 mins. As most of my current projects are secret ones I was not able to stitch ~ should have been a bit more organised really. I enjoyed the chatter and had one or two things to seek out for people so I wasn't totally lazy!
I'm off to quilting group tonight and I'm planning on being more productive ~ not sure what I'll be working on yet.

Roll on the weekend ~ I have a Saturday of stitching planned.

Sunny Weekend Report

Last weekend (June) LM and I headed off to Scotland to stay with my Sis2 and her family ~ the main purpose was to spend some time with them as we haven't been since New Year. It was also their annual village BBQ on Saturday which we had planned to attend ~ however we spent most of Saturday chatting, snoozing, stitching, watching tennis and eating the most fabulous cream scones. It was really quite lovely in our little family bubble that we did not want to add others to the mix ~ quite unsociable really. So instead of the BBQ we had dinner here which was fantastic ~ huge but very tasty. The guys were disappointed as we arrived too late for them to visit the Real Ale Shop ~ they settled for sampling some of it in the bar as consolation. The live music wafted through to the conservatory from the bar as we finished our meal ~ I love live music ~ a great evening. Sunday after breakfast we set again for home stopping off briefly at Houghton Hall Garden Centre for lunch and a poke around the craft department before the final part of our journey. A wonderful weekend.

This weekend I spent mostly indoors completing some long overdue housey chores ~ serves me right for bunking off at other times!

I did manage to sneak off to The Crafts House for a few hours on Sunday morning for a spot of painting ~ can't show you any progress at the moment as I didn't finish what I started ~ my project has been "bagged-up" for when I return again. It's a trio of owls for the wise old bird in our family ~ my wonderful Dad who will be 90 later this year.
As always it was a lovely relaxing time and I finally got to meet a fellow blogger Michelle who has recently been persuaded to keep her blog online ~ not too sure what Sandra threatened her with! No matter, it did the trick and online she stays to inspire us with her wonderful projects. Also had the pleasure of company from Doreen and Lucie and Lucie's very talented daughter. A coffee stop with Doreen rounded off my "free" time - thanks Doreen!
Now ~ a warning ~ I love my vacuum cleaner it's very efficient and does a super job, however on Saturday afternoon it bit! You see that hose ~ well it got very tight hold of the "bingo wing" area on my left arm and would not let go and boy did that smart! I usually have to have a pretty hard knock to get a bruise but this one came up instantly.
Shall be making every effort to avoid that in the future.

June Events

LM was away at Le Mans and returned 14 June ~ happy to be home but more tired than expected, he could barely keep his eyes open.
I walked to Tuesday Stitching Group that week ~ our host lives not too far from me so I decided to walk to boost my exercise for the week. It was a hard walk as it was all uphill! I did feel better for having done it though. We were a small group that night and our host, who always treats us to lovely homemade goodies had made strawberry pavlova ~ it was wonderful. There was also a show and tell as she had finished her quilt ~ had I known I would have taken the camera to get a picture as it is absolutely fabulous.
LM had planned that we would go out for the day on Wednesday, so we set off to Richmond in North Yorkshire. I was driver for the day ~ well LM had just driven back from France, and I really enjoy driving which some people find strange. We had a lovely time ambling around chatting & looking in gift and antique shops.

We found the perfect baby gift that had been eluding us in Dot's Place on Castle Hill ~ a gorgeous shop that's well worth a visit. LM found this in a n antique shop ~ a 100ft metal retractable tape measure bound in leather which looks barely used. We got Fathers' Day gifts while we were there too. We lunched at The Crossview Tearoom ~ fish & chips for LM and Bacon, mushroom & stilton baguette for me. If you're going to Richmond I can recommend this place ~ the staff were really friendly and the food is all freshly cooked and was gorgeous.

One of our favourite places in Richmond is York House Antiques, sorry I couldn't find a link for this ~ it's an Aladdin's Cave of a place arranged over several floors and you could spend hours looking around. They have a mix of old and new, weird and wonderful. I'm fascinated every time I go. I got this flat iron.

I didn't fancy a run up the motorway so we detoured a little (especially as I missed a turn!) along the A66 via Barnard Castle, Staindrop, Tow Law & Lanchester ~ it was a lovely drive, much nicer than joining the stream of vehicles up the A1. If only we could spend every day just ambling around ~ how nice would that be?

TUSAL, New Starts & Shopping

Firstly TUSAL ~ left shows my ORT's for June and right shows the first six months of this year in a christmas bauble. You can see there are many colour changes ~ for me there are just a few too many fuzzy bits!

I have a number of new starts ~ unfortunately I can't show any of them here yet. There should be one that could be pictured if only I could establish where it is! It's a freebie from The Primitive Hare called Merry Yule ~ my Christmas Ornament for June. It's still a WIP at the moment ~ I will show it once I can find it and get a photograph. The others are all birthday gifts for Tuesday Stitching Group which should be finished and re-homed soon.

I bought these fabrics from Michelle who was having a bit of a de-stash ~ I love the colours, especially the green. I have plans for at least one of them but at the moment I'm not sure about the others ~ they will be found a use!

I also bought the new book by Mandy Shaw from Dandelion Designs ~ Stitch With Love

It's full of gorgeous stitcheries and things to make such as cushions, bags, blanket a Christmas wreath and gift tags, aprons and the fabulous sewing tidy pictured below.

I have Lots To Tell You

As I've been missing for a wee while ~ I thought I'd split up my posting into several small ones to prevent boredom setting in with one long one!
Firstly, thanks to all who sent kind wishes for my Mum they have been very much appreciated. She's recovering well but the fall has definitely knocked her confidence. She's sporting a cast on her wrist for the next four weeks but thankfully the stitches are removed and the bruising is almost gone. Bro4 is here for the weekend and planning on taking the WP's out and about so hopefully that will give her a good lift.
It's gorgeous here so far today ~ I have almost all the laundry done and hanging in the sunshine and I still have plenty of other chores to keep me busy but I am hoping for some time to relax in the garden too. The house is quiet as LM has taken the LM car off for a bit of TLC, GB1 is off to work and hoping for a relatively calm shift and GB2 is away for the weekend. It's sometimes nice to have the house to yourself don't you think?

I'll leave you with a picture of All You Need Is Love by The Drawn Thread. The stitching has been finished for quite some time as it was intended as a Valentine gift for LM. I had originally planned a tin finish but I haven't finished anything that way before and couldn't cope with the idea of glue going wrong on this piece. So it sat waiting until recently when I found this frame ~ it's a bit battered but I thought it would be perfect. I love it and I hope LM does too. Valentine's gifts are OK in July ~ right?

Artistic Friday Mark II

Friday lunchtime I finished work and set off for The Crafts House, collecting the Lovely C on the way ~ after an unscheduled stop to pick up my glasses that I forgot! We were booked in for a spot of summer painting ~ some had already arrived and Sandra was being the hostess with the mostest and dishing up teas & coffees while we waited for the others to arrive.

This was our first project ~ it's made from layers of torn text from a dictionary, diluted paint, sequin waste printing (didn't like that bit!) card shapes, stamping and beads. The workshop is designed so that we make three things in 3 hours, we were almost finished this after hour 1 and it was set aside with just the beads to be added later.

Project number two was this ---------->

We painted the sides and back of the blocks then applied papers, inked the edges of the blocks and the letters, embellished and then they were wired together with added beads.

And finally this cute little birdhouse. Painted & with papers applied. Some inked text added before stamping and finishing with little pen dots & lines. It's not the best photograph ~ it's just so dark here today.

It was a lovely afternoon ~ as it always is ~ Sandra had make carrot cake and strudel, there were fresh strawberries and cream too, and surprisingly we (and I'm only talking about the Lovely C & I) had time to eat some. I added the beads to the top project after dinner last night ~ I mixed some that came in the kit with some from my stash together with some sequins and used invisible thread to do it.

It was the perfect way to end the week, very relaxing ~ Thanks Sandra. Hopefully I will be on The Hill again very soon.

Mystery Purchase

Cast your mind back to March and The Pins & Needles Exhibition at the Newcastle Arena ~ if you can remember what I was rambling on about back then you will be my hero!
I made a mystery purchase at the exhibition which I promised to show once I had found the finishing touch for it ~

This is an old mill bobbin converted to a lamp ~ it came without a shade. The original one I bought was the same colour & shape but far too small, so it was returned and this larger one bought in it's place.

When it was converted felt was added to the bottom so it's fit to sit on any surface.

The picture to the right shows the label on top ~ I'm not too sure why I didn't turn the lamp before I photographed this!

I love the light my mystery purchase casts ~ I really like the reflection too.

I just love this lamp.

Tomorrow, or it might be today by the time this post is published, I am off to The Crafts House for a spot of painting/crafting. The lovely C and I have signed up for the four seasonal crafting sessions. The Spring session was back in March and you can see what we did here and here. We have no idea what we will be making ~ only that it will be summer themed. We do know however, that we will enjoy ourselves ~ Sandra always makes sure of it.

I managed another 30 minutes cycling after work ~ I didn't feel like it but it had to be done. I'll try to get out again over the weekend, GB2 may come with me ~ but I will probably have to cycle 5 metres behind him so as not to damage his street cred! It's likely that I will be much further behind him ~ he has teenage legs!
It's just me and the GB's this weekend ~ LM is away in France camping with a group from the TVR Club, they've gone to watch 24 Heures du Mans. He'll return home creaking from sleeping on a camp bed, possibly pink from too much sun exposure, unshaven, full of silly boy tales and probably malnourished from a diet of pot noodle and haribo star mix. I'm sure it will all be great.
I don't know about you but I'm looking forward to the weekend ~ enjoy whatever you may be doing.

Cycling Update

There wasn't any this morning! The weather was perfect, bright and warm. I had decided that start time would be 06:45 ~ leaving plenty of time for breakfast and shower before work. LM woke me at 07:30 ~ he said I looked too peaceful and he didn't want to disturb me!
There is always tomorrow ~ it will no doubt be raining cats & dogs then. To compensate (slightly) I have been running up and down the stairs in the office ~ would have preferred the bike ride.

Christmas Catch Up ~ Birthdays Too

At the beginning of the year I joined the 2011 Christmas Challenge to stitch an ornament a month throughout the year. It started off well ~ January & February on time, then I got a wee bit behind! Well now I am back on track ~ March was completed a little late and I have just finished my April & May ornaments at the end of last week.

This is my ornament for April ~ a freebie offered by Threadwork Primitives. I have stitched this on 18ct natural aida with WDW # 2264 Garnet & # 1279 Holly. It is finished with a hanger of plaited # 8 perle cotton.

Started 31/05/11 & finished 01/06/11 ~ a very quick stitch.

Above right is a picture showing the reverse of both my April & May ornaments.

May's ornament was an equally speedy stitch ~ this is Christmas Baubles a freebie from La Matassina Rossa. Started & finished 01/06/11. Stitched on 28ct evenweave ~ colour unknown with Carries Creations thread in Grumpy, Happy & Dopey and WDW # 2220 Curry. The hanger for this is made from beaded trim.
I have enjoyed stitching these ~ nice to have some quick finishes ~ a good way to help motivation to get back in the swing of things.
June's design is already chosen, I already have fabric in mind so just need to settle on the threads.
I mentioned in my last post that I had the next two birthday gifts almost completed and ready for re-homing. The first batch of gifts were re-homed in February and I posted that I had mis-placed the fabric for one that was stitched and just awaiting finishing.

This is 16th Century Celtic Christmas by Moss Creek Designs and was published in the Just Cross Stitch Ornament Edition 2009 (I think!). I have not noted the fabric in my journal but I believe that it is 32ct linen ~ the thread is Dragon Floss # 65 Passionate Plum and the finishing fabric was from my stash. I followed a tutorial from this Italian blog ~ making one slight error in that my pincushion is not square!

The second gift was for the hostess of yesterdays Tuesday Stitching Group meeting ~ any ideas on her profession? This scissor keep was stitched on 40ct Antique White linen with SSS Blue Raspberry, Kiwi Lime Pie, Watermelon and DMC 951 & 3045. The ballerinas were an Internet freebie that I printed a couple of years ago unfortunately I do not know where from. The cord is made from the three SSS threads used for the dresses. Below you can see the reverse. Both gifts were well received.

I must apologise for the poor photographs ~ I always have problems when photographing 40ct fabric, obviously I need more practise!
There are only 4 more gifts to complete, unfortunately 3 of the birthdays are this month. It will probably be July before before I have them all finished and re-homed. One is started, one is kitted and I still need to find a suitable design for the third.

LM serviced my bike at the weekend so yesterday after work I did a 30 minute ride on The Derwent Walk. It was a lovely evening and there were plenty of walkers along the way. A Trifle From A Friend ~ and other news

A wee while ago I took part in a Spring Pincushion Exchange on the Friendly Stitchers Group ~ unfortunately I did not receive my pincushion from my partner. So Mouse took it upon herself to stitch one up for me so that I did not miss out - how kind was that?
The design is A Trifle From A Friend by Plum Street Samplers. Mouse has stitched it on hand dyed linen and used Crescent Colours Blooming Crocus for the stitching ~ topping it off with a lovely double ribbon bow.
The wording from the design is stitched on the back too.

Mouse also included a gorgeous Gloriana silk thread ~ Hydrangea. This is my very first Gloriana thread and it is fabulous ~ so soft, can't wait to stitch with it. Thanks so much Mouse.

I have managed some stitching over the last week ~ almost caught up with my 2011 Christmas Challenge stitching. I now have April & May ornaments stitched and will be making them up this week ~ pictures to follow soon. In addition to ornaments I have 2 Tuesday Stitching Group birthday gifts almost made up ~ hopefully they will be with their new owners next week, obviously no pictures until after re-homing. I have two more gifts planned/started and 1 further where I am seeking a suitable design.

It was reveal day on Needlecraft Haven on Sunday for the May Stitching Challenge - mine was stitched and I had a trip to Just Quilting on Saturday with the Lovely C to get finishing fabric as my stash was lacking on that front ~ purely for this project I might add, not quantity! I had planned to complete the finishing on Sunday morning however my head had other ideas! The most horrid headache took up residence and I was only fit for sleep ~ so no stitching, or anything else for that matter. I hope to complete it at some point this week.

If you are a regular reader you will know that I am usually late in posting my unofficial TUSAL update. Yesterday was the prescribed day so I feel less guilty on this occasion! I was pleasantly surprised when I decanted them for photographing as with the lack of stitching I hadn't expected to have much to show ~ I'm not sure if that is a good or bad thing!
I hope that you all enjoyed the long holiday weekend ~ Saturday was spent fabric shopping and attending our monthly EG meeting. This month's speaker was Katie Chaplin from Japan Crafts who talked us through Japanese dressing protocol with the aid of her trusty model Dolly. It was a very informative and enjoyable afternoon. Sunday I was wiped out with that nasty headache. On Monday we had a lovely visit from my WP's ~ it had been planned for a little while and originally I was to collect them, however Sis2 was down to stay with my Dad for a few days so she brought them along. It was lovely to spend time with them and a huge bonus that we also got to see Sis2. The birds graced us with their prescence while we sat chatting in the conservatory ~ Dad was delighted by the goldfinch & bullfinch which he said were to be seen in great numbers when he was young.
I feel that time is passing by so quickly at the moment ~ how can it be June already? Tuesday saw the regular meet of our stitching group, yesterday the Lovely C & I had our usual trip to Quilt Group ~ not that we did any quilting ~ I was back-stitching Christmas ornaments! It was a good evening though with a few giggles and some dubious translating of the words on C's french sampler.
The LM is planning his trip away with military preciseness, he's trying to be surreptitious about it but failing ~ I can "see" his thought processes! I have many things I would like to get done during the time he is away, stitching, organising etc but the list will be fluid ~ if it happens great and if it doesn't there's no harm done.
I'm progressing with the weight loss ~ ½ stone down so far which I am really pleased about, plenty still to go! Hopefully LM will have time to give my bike a mini service before he departs as I would like to take advantage of the light mornings and nice weather to get out there before work.
The weather has picked up here today and the day has started bright and warm ~ long may it continue.
Not long until the weekend arrives.

GB1 has finished school now - returning only to sit exams, GB2 is on half term holiday and it's just over a week until LM is off on his annual pilgrimage to Le Mans.
We attended a wedding a couple of weeks ago which was absolutely fabulous ~ I can't imagine going to another like it. A wedding planner was involved and every last detail had been thoroughly prepared for ~ down to pashminas for anyone feeling cold and flip flops for those with sore feet!
Stitching has been sparse and secret ~ not a great combination when you blog!

ORTs and More.....

Yes I know it's almost a month since this should have been posted ~ good job I'm only following the TUSAL unofficially!
Offerings to 3 May followed by my year to date all neatly tucked into a Christmas bauble.

A few weeks ago I did a little trade with Michelle who was de-stashing and I bought several skeins to boost my GAST collection. They arrived all neatly labelled in their little floss away bags ~ great trading with you Michelle ~ Thanks!

Here's a quick update on Grace ~ The Sampler Lady ~ she's almost complete! I only have her face, hands and collar to finish ~ unfortunately the other night at Tuesday Stitching Group I mis-placed some stitches on her face so I have a wee bit of frogging to do.
I have some new starts but can't show them at the moment as they are secret stitching ~ a couple of gifts and also the latest monthly challenge on the Needlecraft Haven group.
Another long weekend is almost upon us ~ it's our monthly EG meeting Saturday and apart from a visit from my WP's we have nothing else planned. Enjoy whatever you may be doing.

New Regime

of excercise & weight loss ~ began last week.
I am delighted to report that this week I am 4lbs lighter. A few weeks ago I attended a couple of Zumba classes, the glut of Bank Holidays stalled my progress with exercise but I will be back on course shortly. Now that the mornings are lighter the plan is to walk before going to work a few times a week ~ we have the Derwent Walk close to home ~ I may even dust down the bike! LM cycles to and from work as often as possible ~ I'm working close enough to home that it would be possible for me to do that ~ I just couldn't contemplate turning up all hot & bothered to start work!
So early morning walks and possible cycles will have to do. Zumba will be resumed and also a spot of Callenetics.
I had lots to post about last week but the maitenance issues with Blogger prevented this - I will update again soon with stitchy news.

You've Got Mail & Tuesday Stitching Group

I don't know about you but I love receiving mail ~ the real physical type. Electronic mail, text messages etc are great too but there is always something quite special about mail that lands on your doormat.
Yesterday I arrived home to find these on my doormat ~ obviously not like this, they had been suitably attired in a handsome padded envelope for their journey across the pond!

Just look at what was inside that gorgeous oriental pouch!

I joined the scissor fob exchange over on the Friendly Stitchers Yahoo group and this is what I received from my partner Jillann. Now, Jillann had a spot of bother with the mailing process and it was originally returned to her before it made it's way to me ~ but a happy ending!

I love the sweet design and the colours that Jillann has used, and aren't those scissors just the cutest? Also included were three reels of HDF silk - Thank You so much Jillann!

I have heard that my package was received too ~ here is what I sent

I stitched Jillann's initial using a freebie alphabet on 40ct Antique White with Polstitches floss in Hedgerow and used the same thread for the cord. A few crystals in matching shades were added to the bottom.

Jillann mentioned that she liked rabbits so having used a thread called Hedgerow it seemed appropriate to have a wee bunny on the back.

I included a few threads and also a pack of Cath Kidston tissues. I was so pleased to hear that my exchange being received had brightened a gloomy day for Jillann.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Tuesday Stitching Group last night ~ catching up with peoples' news, both happy & sad. I worked a little more on my Sampler Lady ~ if I can work out how to get a photograph out of my phone I can show you a size comparison between my 1/1 version and that of the Lovely C who completed it over two.

Today is Wednesday ~ may seem obvious but I need reminding! After the glut of Bank Holidays resulting in shorter working weeks I am having issues remembering where I am.

Scotland & The LM Car

Please be aware that this is a very long post and no stitching is involved!

Well the LM car has made us very proud! We returned home late Monday evening after completing a touring weekend in the Highlands of Scotland with The TVR Car Club ~ 1119 miles in total over the 4 day long weekend and all of it fabulous.

We set off early Friday morning to arrive in time for the breakfast meet ~ our fellow travellers were from the Cumbrian and Dumfries & Galloway regions. Most arrived for bacon sandwiches & coffee in Gretna Green ~ some were late! and others we met a little further up the road. Once all were rounded up there were 10 cars in total ~ 8 TVR's and 2 Mercedes. Our morning coffee stop at The Lochside House Hotel could not have been timed more perfectly! We arrived to see the new Princess leave for the Abbey ~ seeing the all important wedding gown. Coffee and danish pastries were consumed while watching the ceremony.

Next we were off to catch the Gourock to Hunters Quay ferry ~ it was a little choppy! That's the LM car right in the centre. Lunch was at Creggans Inn sitting outside on the shores of Loch Fyne ~ and we had our first competition. We were asked at the coffee stop to make ourselves a Lord/Lady name ~ using the following:

A Grandparent's name
Name of our first pet
Name of house/street we were born in

I became Lady Veda Ann Cherie Aberdeen and the LM was Lord Francis Suzy Felstrassa ~ the hotel staff were introduced to all of us and asked to judge the winner ~ it wasn't either of us! Tom took that accolade but I'm afraid I can't recall his name.
Onwards to Inveraray, Lochgilphead and Oban where we had the briefest of stops. Ballachullish was the final destination for the day and the bar was a welcome sight!

The view from our room and the cars lined up ready for the off on day 2 ~ we're one car short in this shot. Can you see the snow on the hills in the background? Breakfast was enjoyed, cars wiped down, roofs removed and we set off. We paused to see the Commando Memorial at Lochaber and to take in the view of Ben Nevis and Aonach Mor.

Apart from being a wee bit breezy you can see that the weather was fabulous. The cars were drawing some attention too!

Morning coffee stop was at Eilean Donan Castle ~ I've seen this castle many times in photographs and on TV ~ up close it is something else to behold.

Unfortunately there wasn't time to tour the castle ~ LM and I will return one day to do this.

It was decided during coffee that the next section of the journey would be a Ladies drive ~ well I forgot about this and wasn't set up ready to drive when it was time to set off ~ whoops! Consequently we lost the group and missed a turn ~ we knew we were off route when the Skye road bridge came into view. LM deployed the map and got us back on course ~ it was nerve racking for me as when we found the turn the road wound its way up the hill and became single track road with passing places! OK for the seasoned driver of the LM car ~ this was only my 2nd drive. We meandered through glens and over hills eventually arriving at the next stopping point at Corrieshalloch Gorge and the Falls of Measach. We were only a few minutes behind the others by the time we arrived ~ it was well worth the walk down (and back up!) the path to view the falls ~ it made me feel a little giddy but was quite spectacular.

I drove from here to the petrol stop in Ullapool ~ and managed to remain with the group this time! The weather was absolutely glorious while we walked around the town. LM was back in charge for the final leg of the journey from here to Altnaharra ~ if you check out the link you can see just how far north we were. The lounge and a drink lured many of the group but LM and I wanted a quiet sit with a coffee in our room before showering for dinner.

We heard a fair amount of noise while relaxing in our room but paid no attention ~ turned out that the water went off for a spell ~ some of the group were mid-shower/hair washing at this point! We think that 17 people all trying to shower simultaneously killed the pressure in the system ~ these things happen!

Saturday's competition was for best black & white outfit at dinner ~ again the hotel staff were asked to judge. Linda was chosen ~ I think because she had included a wee bit of tartan!

Sunday was a much slower paced day ~ we set off about 10:30 and headed to our first stop at Kylesku. We were booked into the Kylesku Hotel for coffee/lunch ~ nobody took the lunch option ~still full from breakfast! We journeyed on until Scourie where breakaway group ~ commonly known as nutters! ~ left the main group to drive an additional 150 miles to John O'Groats. We stuck with the sedate mob ~ continuing to Durness the most north westerly village on the mainland.

I was the only one who wanted to paddle ~ the sea just looked so gorgeous ~ it was extremely cold though!

We had coffee and scones a little further along the coast followed by a stop at Smoo Caves where LM and I walked down and ventured into the viewing gallery ~ it was late in the day and the tours were no longer running ~ what we could see was fabulous.

We drove back to the hotel via Loch Eriboll, Loch Hope, The Kyle of Tongue, Loch Loyal and finally Loch Naver back into Altnaharra. Showers were taken in shifts to avoid the difficulties of Saturday evening! The "nutters" arrived back from their epic journey and we enjoyed another fabulous dinner.

Sadly, Monday came around too soon and it was time to set off for home ~ some 400+ miles away! Another lovely breakfast set us up for the day ~ Tom & Debbie set off earlier as they needed to be in Perth. The remaining cars set off at 9'ish ~ first stop Tain and the Mansfield Castle Hotel for coffee. Trish & John left us here to visit family in Inverness. We had to find yet more fuel and then continued down the A9 and all it's gorgeous scenery to our afternoon coffee stop at the House of Bruar ~ we also had a brief mooch around the shop too. We took to the hills again heading through Pitlochry, Blaigowrie, New Scone and Perth ~ Colin & Iona peeled off here and we continued to Edinburgh for our final stop of the day ~ dinner.

We were solo for our final leg from Edinburgh to Newcastle ~ the other 6 cars heading across to Cumbria.

Can't wait to do it all again next year ~ different areas to be explored and hopefully I will be doing more of the driving too.

How many times do you hear that you shouldn't make assumptions? I tell my GB's this all the time! So how embarrassed do you think I am right at this moment having assumed who was stitching a bookmark for me in the exchange on Needlecraft Haven? Shall we just say that I am very pleased that blogging can be camera free ~ otherwise you may be blinded by the glare from my red face!

Saturday was reveal day for the Needecraft Haven bookmark exchange.
This is the bookmark from my partner Clare ~ full of butterflies, blooms and a birdhouse! The colours are just perfect for spring ~ thank you so much Clare, it's already tucked inside my book! Clare also sent me a lovely card and three DMC threads.

This is my bookmark for Clare - Spring Tulips by Glory Be. Stitched on 28ct evenweave ~ snapdragon with various silks from Dinky Dyes, Stef Francis and #4050 DMC Variations. It was backed with a spring green small check gingham fabric.

I really enjoyed participating in this exchange ~ thanks to Clare for organising it.

I have now heard that my partner in the Spring Pin Cushion exchange on The Friendly Stitchers Group has received the package that I sent ~ I was getting quite concerned about this as it was mailed 17 March! Alls well that ends well and with some assistance from one of the Mods ~ thanks Mouse ~ the package has been collected from the PO in the States.

This is Stitching Buds by My Big Toe Designs. It was stitched on 28ct evenweave ~ Astor with Sweet Babycakes from SSS, Poblano Pepper from CC and Smokin' Needles from Polstitches.
I added a small scissors charm and a few flower beads. The background fabric was used to back the pin cushion.
Well, it's the end of my Easter break and LM & I are back to work this morning. Fortunately this week contains only 3 working days for us before we have another 4 day weekend ~ I'm already looking forward to it!

Tuesday stitching group tonight ~ I will be putting the finishing touches to a scissor fob ~ the last of my current exchange pieces ~ ready to mail out tomorrow.

A few weeks ago I took part in Maggee's Name Yourself Day giveaway ~ you had to leave a comment describing what you would name yourself and the story behind choosing that name. I was lucky enough to be drawn as one of the three winners! Maggee very kindly sent the charts pictured ~ Seasoned Greetings by ByGone Stitches, French Country Snow Globe by JBW Designs and Jolly Holiday by Lizzie Kate. Maggee also included an eco friendly package ~ the small packet at bottom left ~ these are small flower shapes of bio degradable paper that is embedded with wild flower seeds. I hope to pot these up soon and I'm looking forward to seeing the results. Thank you so much Maggee.

We've been busy the last few days ~ LM spent Friday pottering outside, weed and feed was added to the lawn, the shed was re-painted, garden waste disposed, patio furniture and decking cleaned down ready for use and general outside clear up. GB1 was providing service with a smile (I hope!) to the coffee drinking general public and I spent all day ~ yes All Day ~ in GB2's bedroom. We cleaned ~ well that was mostly me, matched electrical goods with their long lost cables, chargers & instructions, cleared the wardrobe of clothing that no longer fits etc etc. Have you ever seen the Michael McIntyre sketch about "the man drawer" well basically that refers to GB2's bedroom! The only difference ~ I think the man drawer is probably cleaner!
We've had birthday's too ~ my lovely Mum was 87 ~ I had a short visit with her on Saturday together with my Dad and Sis2. LM clocked up another year too!
I joined Carol & Doreen at Just Quilting for a spot of sewing on Saturday afternoon ~ I started a new bag and got some fabric for making up The Sampler Lady. To top Saturday off ~ LM and I enjoyed chinese take out for dinner.
I'm hoping that the weather improves for the remainder of the weekend as I'd like to spend some time outside.

I will be back quickly with an update on exchange goodies ~ just need some daylight for photographs.

Bunting, Being Good & Boys

Our Tuesday stitching group met up on The Hill this week for a spot of painting with Sandra and this was our project. Lovely wooden bunting.
The table was set ~ very neatly ~ with our kits and the necessary tools and supplies. Tea, coffee, cake & biccies in plentiful supply. There is definitely an art to being able to complete your project and manage to eat & drink ~ I need little more practise I think!

We painted the sides and back of our flags then added patterned papers to the front. The flags and card letters were inked at the edges. We embellished with gold paint, fine black pens, buttons and bling ~ sorry it doesn't show on my photographs ~ and we all finished. Another fabulous workshop evening. Mine is currently hanging from this wooden blind..
Following our spring workshop with Sandra the Lovely C and I will be returning to complete the other seasons in June, September & December and I'm really looking forward to them.

I have been really good ~ honest indian! My exchange that arrived last week is still trussed up in it's envelope but I only have to wait until Saturday so not much longer. I mailed my envelope on Monday and I hope that my partner likes what I made ~ I will show pictures once the reveal has finished.

And finally, boys and not just any boys! Those of the GB variety ~ our GB1 & GB2.
I love this sepia toned drawing, it hangs on our lounge wall. It's almost 13 years old and always makes me smile. I date it from knowing that it was completed prior to GB2 getting his glasses, just before his 2nd birthday. The company that did the drawings came to the nursery that the GB's attended to take photographs which were then used to complete the drawings. I have been trying to find the details of the company as I might like to have an updated version ~ not sure that the GB's will be over enamoured with my idea, but I shall just have to ~~withhold pocket money~~ persuade them.
I am looking forward to the holiday weekend ~ we have birthdays to celebrate, including my Mum & LM. I'm hoping for lots of stitching time, the last of my exchange pieces just needs making up ready to be mailed on Tuesday. I'd like to try to finish Grace as I have a new start in my head ~ need to practise with some soluble canvas (provided by the lovely C - Thanks) to see if my idea works. Success or failure I shall let you into the secret once I get going.

Late Weekend Report

I can't believe how fast last weekend passed ~ I must have been having too much fun! Saturday I paid a quick visit to Just Quilting as I wanted to look for some fabric to make up my Sampler Lady. I had a lovely chat and coffee with Carol, Doreen & Viv but unfortunately no fabric purchase ~ it's not that there wasn't any I just forgot to take Grace with me! So I shall have to go another time.
It was the monthly EG meeting in the afternoon and we had a wonderful talk from Helen Dickson. She told us of her journey through her textile learning ~ it was very interesting. She brought many things to show us too and they were amazing. Pop over and check out her blog.
I called into Town (Newcastle) on my way home to look for a shop I had been told about ~ didn't find it! I did however find something else which I will tell you about another time.

Sunday LM and I set off in the LM car to Berwick ~ picnic on board and roof off. It was cool but a lovely drive up. We walked along the pier and read about the Lowery Trail, apparently Lowery was very fond of Berwick ~ something I was unaware of until our visit. We sat close to the pier with our picnic that LM had prepared for us ~ followed by a wee snooze. Here are some pictures of our day.

LM drove back via the Northumberland Coastal Route, well most of it, he got a bit side-tracked and turned off the coast route! Can I just say ~ blond! It was quite breezy on the way home but still an enjoyable journey.

The GB's had plans for Sunday evening and I was the elected taxi driver - GB2 was dropped off at the speedway to see the Newcastle Diamonds ~ and collected again at the end ~ and GB1 was staying over with a friend and needed a ride there. Unfortunately for us this meant we had to change our plans for dinner as the time between speedway drop off and pick up was insufficient to comfortably cook and eat our planned meal ~ I was only planning on eating it ~ LM does most of the cooking in our house! So our steak and peppercorn sauce was postponed to later in the week ~ and it will be well worth waiting for too!

Our usual Tuesday stitching group changed tack this week with another visit to The Hill for an evening of painting with Sandra ~ I will take a picture of my finished project later ~ it's already hanging up! As usual we had a brilliant night ~ thanks Sandra.

A Small Finish and Exciting Mail

Hello again!
This is the small finish I mentioned in my last post ~ Winter by The Stitcherhood. Stitched on 18ct natural aida with WDW & GAST floss. I plaited some #8 perle cotton for the hanger.
It was a very quick stitch.

And this is the back ~ simply finished with just my name and the year.

I really enjoy small finishes, especially when they are finished with back stitch/whip stitch. It's so simple to complete ~ although this time for some strange reason I back stitched with 2 strands of DMC which I kept splitting when doing the whip stitch ~ won't be doing that again in a hurry.

Now onto the exciting mail ~ this arrived today ~ it's from my partner in the Spring Bookmark Exchange on the Needlecraft Haven Group. Sadly this is all I can show you at the moment as we can't open our envelopes until 23 April ~ which is ages away yet!

I am grateful that Thursday has arrived ~ this week has been extra busy and I am really looking forward to some down time at the weekend. I'm having my nails done Friday evening ~ a rare occurance, it's the next EG meeting on Saturday and I will be trying to have plenty of stitching time if I can manage it. I may even go to another Zumba class tonight if I can muster up the energy ~ did my first one on Monday evening. I'm not graceful or co-ordinated but it was good fun and I definately know that I did it!

I have a small finish to share with you next time ~ just need to remember to take some photographs.

Tamara Veronica Rochester

This is what I christened the LM car when she first arrived at our house several years ago.
Well yesterday she managed to survive a trip out with me driving! Armed with sunglasses and a less than attractive but completely essential cap (no Bridgett Jones hair for me!) we set off. I didn't want to drive from home, our street has an unforgiving incline up to the junction and I just wasn't confident enough to give that a go on my first outing, also wasn't keen on any neighbours watching just in case I made a hash of things. So LM drove to a car park a short distance away. It was a slow start ~ pulling away in first seemed difficult so I had one trip around the car park and then out onto the roads.
The destination was an out of town retail park, mostly motorway or dual carriageway on the journey there so it was a little noisy with the roof off. I even managed to park ~ although I did choose a spot well away from other vehicles. It turned out to be a productive trip as we were able to get a few things and also had a treat in the form of coffee at Starbucks ~ apologies to GB1. The roof came off again for the return journey and we took a more scenic route home via Durham, and Lanchester ~ plenty of opportunity to practise gear changes, braking and pulling away at junctions going this way. In all I drove a little over 60 miles and loved every minute of it! Can't wait to do it again.
I have a busy week ahead with a couple of deadlines to meet ~ both work and stitching. LM is away for a couple of days again and the GB's finish school Friday for the Easter break. I'm hoping that the lovely weather will continue but I shan't hold my breath!

Gorgeous Grace

I told you earlier in the week that Grace was looking much improved since I frogged and re-stitched "Needleworker"

I'm much happier now and I've completed a bit more too. I hope it won't be too much longer before she is finished.
She is really quite petite stitched over one - the scissors are 4" long.
I'm now looking at ideas on making her into something ~ I have decided that I don't want a framed piece.

It's gorgeous today in my part of the world ~ I have laundry whirling in the breeze and more in the machine, all the windows open to let in the lovely spring air and I'm doing bits of this and that. Bees and butterflies are floating around outside ~ lovely signs of spring.
The LM car has rear wheels again and has been cleaned and polished to within an inch of it's life ~ he's now pootled off to the TVR CC meet. Don't ever tell LM I said pootled ~ I'm sure it's quite inappropriate when speaking of the LM car! He'll be back in an hour or so and then it's my turn to "pootle" ~ nervous or what!

Saturday Sewing

Last year I was invited to go to a stitching day with one of the ladies from the TVR CC ~ the first opportunity I had to go was October and it was a lovely day. It's held in a teaching room above Just Sew in Penrith, and I have stitched on various projects over the months. Our group meet the 2nd Saturday of the month so this morning I set off at 7:45, collected a friend and we took the journey across the A69 in glorious sunshine arriving a little after 9.

Today I finished (almost) my heart ~ this was from the foundation piecing class that I took at the Pins & Needles Exhibition last week. It still needs it's ribbon hanger and bow ~ but today I found that more than a little irritating, so rather than make a mess I set it aside. It's a little lumpy round the edges ~ not sure how to eliminate that ~ did I need to stuff it a bit more do you think?

We had a walk out at lunch to a local deli for gorgeous ham, brie and onion confit baguettes.

I also managed to finish my bookmark for the exchange I'm participating in on the Needlecraft Haven board. You will have to wait a while before I can show you the photographs.

I needed to get a button to add to my heart so while I was downstairs in the shop I had the obligatory mooch around and found this lovely trim to add to my stash. Just love the colours.
I didn't dare start to look at the fabric! I shall have to remember to take the camera with me next time to show you just what they carry.

We had a great journey home ~ it was 21C when we set off ~ in April!

We are going to try eating out here tonight and tomorrow I am having my first drive in this............

I have been assured by LM that it will have rear wheels by then!

Yesterday was the TUSAL reporting day ~ yes, I am late again! I took the photographs and then the time just ran away from me. Don't you find that weekend time goes much faster than weekday time?

Here are my meagre offerings for this month - including the raggy pile from above.

The raggy pile at the top of the page used to be "Needleworker" on my Sampler Lady ~ did you guess? I couldn't classify my mistake as personalisation in this instance so yesterday afternoon I sat down with my quick unpick and ripped it out ~ literally! It's now re-stitched and I'm much happier ~ update photographs later in the week.

Our household were back to school and work today ~ LM set off at stupid o'clock for Preston and is currently travelling from there to London. GB1 is serving coffee to the shoppers of the NE and GB2 is skillfully avoiding any life responsibility ~ oh to be 14 again!
I'm off to seek stash to embellish my patchwork heart and to work on the finishing of a bookmark for an exchange on Needlecraft Haven ~ who knows I might even get two finishes tonight.

Stash!

A quick update on our trip to the Pins & Needles show at Newcastle Arena.
<<<------- New Stash ! Lovely fabrics, beads, button, trim and patterns and a couple of needed DMC's. I also have a mystery purchase to show at a later date once I have found something required to complete it!
The day started with a class on foundation piecing. Our Teacher was Carol from Just Quilting and fortunately for us there were only 3 people booked in. Our project was a heart ~ and the plan was to finish all the piecing during the class, which we all did, then embellish and finish later. Our kit included a pre-made backing and Carol gave tips on embellishments and finishing. I will post pictures once I have completed mine. I love to learn new techniques so it was great to remove some of the mystery behind this one.
We met lots of people, Tuesday Stitching Girls, lovely stall holders ~ some we know from other shows and some new, EG members, Wednesday Quilt Group members and old painting buddies ~ Hi Sheila!
We were there when they rang the bell ~ almost had to be put out! All in all a very tiring but thoroughly enjoyable day.
Hairdresser for me today, visits to make tomorrow to our Mums for Mothers Day, and miscellaneous household chores are what the weekend holds in store. Hopefully I can fit in some stitching too.

Tuesday Stitching

Or more appropriately - lack of sewing!
It was my turn to host the group yesterday ~ I should have made lemonade scones but the good intentions fell by the wayside and it was good old M&S biccies instead. I think perhaps I should make them to take when someone else is hosting and I'm not trying to do several other things simultaneously.
We were 3 members down ~ 1 holidaying, 1 poorly and 1 overrun with work ~ hopefully the latter two will get back into the swing when they are feeling better/less stressed. We did have an interloper ~ the lovely C joined us.
It was time to draw our names for who we will be stitching for this Christmas ~ the first time we have managed to draw on the first shot, we usually have to re-start due to someone picking their own name! I am very happy to be stitching for my partner, not that I wouldn't be for any of the ladies ~ some are just easier to match with projects.
I would like to say a huge thank you to all those who have left comments on my last post regarding Grace ~ whilst I have not yet decided I have certainly been given some food for thought. You are all very kind and I truly appreciate that you have taken the time to pass on suggestions.
Tomorrow I have a day off work and the lovely C and I are off to the Pins & Needles show at the Arena, we're also booked in to do this workshop with Carol from Just Quilting. I'm quite looking forward to it, I just need to make a list tonight of things I "need".

I have a dilemma ~ Grace the lovely Sampler Lady has a mis-placed title!

Can you see that "Needleworker" is set to the left? I'm not happy about it ~ but my dilemma is whether or not to unpick?
I know that I should as it's glaring however unpicking 1/1 is a w ee bit scary!
She's been like this since Wednesday and I am no further forward in my decision making.
In less depressing news I have laundry blowing on the line ~ one of my most favourite things!
LM has gone off on a run with the TVR Car Club down to Masham ~ I decided that my jobs should take priority over joining him today ~ lots of laundry/shopping/HW to do and I would like to start a new week all up to date.
The week ahead has much in store:
Tuesday Sitching Group at our house ~ we will be making the draw to find out who our Christmas partners are ~ have I bitten off more than I can chew in attempting to organise this!
LM is off to Stratford for business ~ I wish I could go with him.
I have my next hair appointment.
A trip to Pins & Needles, and hopefully
a decision on the dilemma!

I found it when I called home briefly after work yesterday before meeting friends for dinner ~ I knew what it was but still had to open the envelope to check.
It's absolutely beautiful, filled with gorgeous projects ~ not one that I don't like ~ how can I resist making a start on something!
Thanks to Sally for the advice on where to order ~ She pointed me in the direction of Anita's Little Stitches and what fabulous service. Ordered Thursday last week and arrived yesterday.

Dinner was a chance to catch up with some old work colleagues, unfortunately one could not make it. We had a lovely meal at Zizzi's in the Metro Centre, it was great to catch up on their news. We all worked for the same company a couple of years ago. It has been refreshing to hear that they, like me, feel that even though we are in temporary contracts it has been a very uplifting experience to break free of employment that was a bit oppressive.

We have plans for the weekend ~ LM and I are going to the Living North Live tomorrow, we've been to the Living North Christmas Fair for several years now but this will be our first visit to the Spring Fair and we're looking forward to it. GB1 and a friend are off to see the X Factor Live Tour at the Newcastle Arena ~ excited just doesn't come into it! GB2 will no doubt just be doing the teenage thing!
LM also has a TVR Car Club run on Sunday ~ I'm not sure if I will be going yet as I have a wee backlog of housey jobs that I would like to clear before the start of next week.

I shall leave you with a picture if our goldfinches feeding on the thistle seed ~ aren't they gorgeous. Only managed to catch three of them this time, we can have up to eight at times. There was also a blue tit who was obviously camera shy as he's gone! Not sure if the lovely spring weather we have had is going to hold out for the weekend ~ I hope so. Enjoy your weekend!

Catch Up

Last week was my first week back to full time work and it passed very quickly. The office is very quiet and the pace of work extremely sedate ~ quite a change from most of the other places I have worked! This is not a complaint ~ I'm just pleasantly surprised that work can be completed within contracted hours!

It was our EG meeting on Saturday and there was a good turnout, the guest speaker told us about her life of collecting and the inspiration that brought to her work. She brought with her a whole host of collectibles and some of her hand stitched/made items that were inspired by them.

There was much action around the sale table due to the batches of upholstery/curtain fabric samples that were for sale. I bought a couple of batches ~ not entirely sure where I will use them however one idea is for a covered journal/notebook ~ just don't hold your breath! This is one of them ~ the other one is very similar but brown/cream mixes.

I have done very little stitching over the weekend just a wee bit on my Sampler Lady. There is plenty of planning going on at the moment and hopefully I should have some finishes to show very soon. One will be the pincushion I completed for an exchange on The Friendly Stitchers group ~ need to wait for this to arrive with my partner first.

Tuesday stitching group was a very merry place to be last night ~ it wasn't a full compliment but we did have a lovely evening with plenty of friendly ribbing going on. Unfortunately I did a little too much chatting which lead to mis-placed stitches that had to be reversed and then my thread did a major knotty-thing ~ so I put my stitching down. Concentrating instead on consuming homemade cheese scones made by our lovely host ~ I could get a gold star for cheese scone eating!

I took Buzz to show off, this is the final item to be completed from a class that the lovely C and I recently attended at The Crafts House - Isn't he cute?
You can see the other items I made here.
He was made using fabric yoyos, the wings are layered with wadding and he has a stinger made with ~~bungle~~ bugle beads.

LM has been to the North West today for a meeting and has more travel on the horizon during the next couple of weeks. GB1 has completed his first two shifts at work and is now eagerly awaiting the tinkle of coinage into his bank account ~ or in other words payday! GB2 is being laid back as per usual ~ he's a bit like Dylan from The Magic Roundabout. I find this a little worrying at times ~ like today when he has a mock GCSE exam!

I have more pictures to share but I shall leave them until another day ~ off to do a bit of blog/group reading before bed.

Look who came to dinner

We are fortunate where we live in that we get visits from lots of lovely birds ~ at times the visitors are less glamorous than this guy.
Isn't he gorgeous?
We haven't seen him for a very lomg time and a couple of weeks ago he returned ~ as bright and beautiful as ever. He even brought his lady friend with him.

Don't they make a lovely couple.
Please excuse the state of our shed - we're hoping that we will have warmer, drier weather this spring/summer and be able to complete all the overdue garden maintenance.
And a quick update on Grace ~ My Sampler Lady ~ I was able to work on her at stitching group on Tuesday.

I finished the border and added linen & pins ~ she looks a little more at home now.
It's been a little bit non-stop this week ~ I'm pleased that Friday has arrived! LM has business in North Yorkshire today, I would have gone with him had I still been part-time.
I have my Embroiderer's Guild monthly meeting tomorrow which I'm looking forward to.

Or in other words ~ Proud Mummy Moment!
The wonderfully talented GB1 had his first ever interview on Monday, his first ever trial shift on Tuesday and now has his first ever job! Oh goodness ~ where did my baby go?
I am soooo proud of him ~ he went out several times armed with CV's and enquired in many and varied outlets in the Metro Centre looking for part time work and his perseverance has paid off.
Work officially starts Saturday.

New Start.....

My temporary assignment finished on Friday so I have to say goodbye to my lovely 3 day working week! However, it's hello to a new assignment as of 9am this morning - back to full time working - will I cope?

Artistic Friday

Friday lunchtime I set off for The Crafts House to submit myself to the process of being artistic ~ please remember there are degrees of artistic!
The lovely C and I were booked onto a Spring themed class to make 3 things in 3 hours. We always have the best time with Sandra, there's no pressure, the banter is great, quite often side splitting and the "refreshments" are out of this world homemade goodies ~ Friday we had lovely scones and yummy carrot cake.

First project was to make a bunny ~ we dressed her using papers then added paint for her arms, legs and face. Finally she has a fabric bow in her hair and a button to adorn her dress. She is then fixed to the lid of a jar ~ I think mine will be used for holding some of my stitching charms.

Next we made a bumble bee from fabric yo-yos ~ mine still requires the assembly to be completed so no picture just yet.

Finally came the cutest little bunny peeking out of a watering can ~ there was a choice for finishing the bunny, you could either use papers in the same way as the first project or you could use paint. Mine is painted a lovely green with added polka dots. A wire hanger with beads strung and a dangling heart add the finishing touches.

We had another wonderful afternoon - thanks Sandra!
Our Tuesday stitching group have another painting session booked with Sandra in mid April which I am really looking forward to. If you're in the North East, or just visiting I can't recommend The Crafts House enough ~ it's always worth a visit.

Sampler Lady Update

Here she is ~ her bobbin pedastal is now complete and the flowers are growing. I think I shall call her Grace.
Not many stitches added yesterday as secret projects with deadlines were top of the list. Both are now stitched and the first one should be hitting the mail early next week.

Road Trip!

Well day trip really ~ I decided that a trip out somewhere with my lovely friend C was in order as shortly I will be returning to working full time and won't have the opportunity for weekday jaunts. We didn't want to go too far and decided that driving range should be about an hour from home ~ this gives quite a few options, we could go west to Carlisle/Penrith, North to Jedburgh/Berwick, east is not an option as we're practically at the coast! We settled for south and having looked up the places in North Yorkshire with market days Ripon became the destination of choice. Picture from Google Images.

Thursday morning was bright and sunny but very cold, there were a couple of issues on the journey ~ a sat nav that peeled itself off the windscreen ~ note to self, must clean car!, and the horrid roadworks on the A1.

As we were looking for parking we spotted a couple of "must" go into shops ~ and we did! Castle Furniture Store, a huge shop with furniture of all shapes, sizes and colour and also lots and lots of giftware, clocks, plaques, planters etc. We spent ages here drooling over many many things ~ eventually I bought this ~ a present for my LM as it's his favourite.

I did have a photograph of the lid showing it's legend "Bee Happy" but it was very out of focus!

C bought a little plaque for her daughter.

We wandered around the market ~ did I mention that it was very cold? ~ Lovely plants & flowers, wool, fabric, foodstuffs and this fabulous little coffee boot!

What a great use for a wee Smart car!
This, by the way, is the only photograph I took on the day ~ I carried the camera around but it really was too cold to contemplate stopping still for too long!
We lunched at a warmer coffee shop - did I mention that it was cold?

Just off the Market Square was Abode - another shop filled with yummy goodness, pillows, vases, candles, spice jars, hearts in different styles and colours and lots besides ~ more drooling!

And over the road was The Curiosity Shop or it might have been The Curious Shop ~ lots of antique bits and pieces and they had a lovely "make do and mend" window display with lots of vintage knitting/crochet/quilting and sewing patterns, cards of darning wool, a clothing ration book etc. Having always wanted to own some vintage thread bobbins I bought these.

Also of note was The March Hare Gallery on Duck Hill ~ what a fabulous address! Full of artwork, pottery, handmade cards etc.
We managed, eventually, to find Barnyarns and got in just before closing to have a look at what they had to offer.
All in all a lovely day and definately a place I would return to quite happily.
It's stitching group for me tonight - I have a small amount of stitching to complete on one of my exchanges and then I shall be working on The Sampler Lady. Picture post to follow later in the week.

Sunday Sunday

Saturday was a busy day ~ GB1 was at a Forensics Masterclass at Northumbria University as part of the Gifted and Talented Scheme run in schools. While he was there we had the opportunity to attend an open event run for parents to get an insight into what to expect when he goes to University. How to get information on courses/funding/accommodation etc, tips on useful websites and they also did a Q & A session at the end. Although GB1 has absolutely no intention of going to a local university ~ too close to the olds for his liking! ~ it was useful. We will attend open days at the places he decides he would like to study at closer to the time.

We popped to a local garden centre, bought more bird feed, had lunch there too, followed by a trip to the coast ~ to see the sea! I love the sea, well any water really and it didn't disapoint ~ the sun was shining, the sky was a lovely pale blue and the waves were rolling in. It always brings peace to my soul. Note to self ~ remember to take the camera out with you!

Today I'm hoping for a calm and peaceful day ~ I do have chores but they will be interspersed with stitching and a little stash sorting too.
